Parent Coaching
Morning chaos....Screen time conflicts....Emotional outbursts..... Does this sound like your family?
- Parent Coaching can help you:
- Provide emotional support without permissiveness
- Set clear boundaries with loving guidance
- Establish mutual respect with your child
- Empower your child to become a confident, responsible adult
Positive Parenting Coaching is a collaborative, strengths-based approach that supports parents and caregivers in building effective, nurturing relationships with their children. Rather than focusing on past experiences or problems, Positive Parenting Coaching centers on practical strategies parents can use right now to encourage positive behavior, improve communication, and reduce family stress. Through guidance, education, and skill-building, parents learn developmentally appropriate techniques such as setting healthy boundaries, using positive reinforcement, and responding to challenging behaviors with consistency and empathy. The goal is to empower parents with confidence and tools that promote emotional regulation, resilience, and healthy family dynamics, creating a supportive environment where both children and caregivers can thrive.
Tomekia Raines, LMSW is a Certified Positive Parent Coach who has two adult children and understands the pressures and stresses of parenting. She enjoys working with parents to create a balanced and less stressful home.
A mental health therapist is a licensed healthcare professional who provides psychotherapy services and is trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Clients often work with therapists on a long-term basis, meeting regularly to address emotional concerns and related challenges. Therapy focuses on clients’ feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, helping them gain insight into how past experiences and cognitive patterns influence their current emotions and actions. Therapists provide evidence-based mental health treatments.
A coach, by contrast, is not a healthcare professional and is not required by states to be licensed or certified, though some may hold voluntary certifications or have educational backgrounds in psychology, counseling, or related fields. Coaching is goal-oriented and future-focused, with sessions designed to empower clients to identify objectives, develop skills, and take action toward personal or professional growth. While coaching may briefly acknowledge past experiences, it primarily emphasizes present challenges and strategies for creating desired outcomes rather than exploring underlying mental health issues. Tomekia Raines is a Licensed Master Social Worker and a Certified Positive Parenting Coach.
A key distinction between therapists and coaches is that coaches cannot diagnose or treat mental health disorders. If a coach believes a client may be experiencing mental health concerns, they may recommend or refer the individual to a licensed mental health professional. In some cases, individuals may benefit from participating in both therapy and coaching simultaneously, using therapy to address mental health needs and coaching to support goal attainment and personal development.
If it becomes clear that a client might benefit from therapy or another level/type of care, we’ll collaborate with the appropriate professionals to ensure a smooth and supportive transition.
